I don't want to start a fight, but I need to say this plainly. For the third time this month I've seen a coyote trotting the sidewalk along Del Prado near the drop-off zone at R.H. Dana Elementary, right around 7:40 when kids are walking in. This morning it stopped and watched a group of them before slipping into the ivy. My daughter walks that stretch, and we lost a neighbor's cat on Copper Lantern in the spring. I keep hearing that we should yell and wave our arms to "haze" them off, but a wild animal that comfortable around children isn't going to be talked out of it. I've asked our HOA to press the city on removal in that corridor before school's back in session, and honestly I think that's the responsible call.

That drop-off timing would rattle me too, so I get why you flagged it. I've been trying to learn what's actually normal versus not — is a coyote just moving through at dawn on the same level as one that stops and lingers near people? I don't have a side yet, I'm just trying to sort out which sightings are the ones worth worrying about.
