Small thing that's been working for us, sharing in case it helps someone. My daughter and I walk our beagle, Mochi, on the Oso Creek Trail before school and there's a coyote we'd see most mornings near the little footbridge by Pavion Park. I stopped bringing treats in my jacket pocket (I think Mochi's snacks were the whole draw) and started carrying a cheap umbrella I can pop open. Between those two changes we've had a much calmer month — the coyote clocks us and keeps its distance now instead of trailing. Still keeping Mochi on a short leash and we turn back if it's within about 40 feet. My real question for the group: our HOA off Marguerite keeps the greenbelt sprinklers running at dawn, and I've noticed that's exactly when we cross paths most. Is early morning just a high-activity window I should plan around, or is there something about the wet grass and open space that I'm not thinking about? Trying to keep the routine my kid loves without white-knuckling it every day.
