Genuine question for anyone who knows the rules here. We back up to the trail near Calle Frontera by the San Clemente Ridgeline, and I've watched a coyote trot the same path around 6:40 both mornings this week, totally relaxed, not bothered by people at all. My question is: at what point does the city actually step in and remove one? Is there a threshold — a certain number of reports, or does something have to happen first? I called and got pointed to Coyote Cacher but I want to understand what logging it actually triggers. I'd rather be the annoying neighbor who reports early than wait until it's comfortable enough to come up a driveway. What's the real process?

Nairi, that half-dark hour with an eleven-pound dog is exactly when I stopped walking my little one on the canyon side. Trailing you to the sports park is den or pup season behavior, and it's genuinely unnerving. Two things that helped me: carry a shake can or a small air horn, and vary your route and timing so you're not predictable to them. I lean toward coexistence, but a coyote that stalks a leashed dog and won't break off from arm-waving is the kind of specific animal worth reporting to the city by name and location. Log the date, time and trail every time it happens. Momo's lucky you picked him up.
