Trying to get a straight answer on this. We back up to the Jeffrey Open Space trail near Portola and I've counted three separate coyotes cutting through the greenbelt in the past week, twice in full daylight around 4pm when the kids are getting off the bus. When I report through the Access Irvine app, what actually happens on the city's end? Does anyone come out, or does it just log a dot on a map somewhere? I keep hearing "coexist" but I have two small kids and I'm not comfortable treating a predator wandering our yard as normal background noise. Is there a threshold — a number of sightings, a certain behavior — where the city or Fish & Wildlife will actually remove one? I'd rather know the process now than after something happens.

Jennifer, you're not imagining it. I've watched the same thing on the Dana Point trails — you clap and wave and it just sits there sizing you up. Once they've lost the fear, the flyer script is theater. For the real process: call OC Animal Care, and if it's public land loop the city too. Document dates, times, the lost cat, photos if you can. A pattern of bold behavior near a school is exactly what gets a trap authorized. One HOA email isn't a plan — I'd push them to formally report it, not just tell you to babysit your pets.
