Trying to sort out what's normal before I overreact. We back up near the Jeffrey Open Space trail and I saw a coyote trotting along the greenbelt around 9:40am yesterday, not slinking, just moving like it owned the place and not bothered by me at all. Everything I'd read said they're mostly a dawn/dusk thing, so a mid-morning one out in the open threw me. Is a daytime sighting like that actually a red flag, or is it just what they do here and I'm reading too much into it? Genuinely asking — I'd rather understand the behavior than assume the worst.

Welcome, Aaron. I'm newer to this too and mostly still listening, but the 6am thing jumped out at me — dawn and dusk seem to be exactly when they're most active, so shifting Biscuit's walk an hour or two later isn't pointless. From what I've read, a coyote just trotting past on the trail is pretty normal behavior, not stalking. Keep him leashed and close, though. Curious what the canyon regulars say about the air horn — that part I genuinely don't know yet.
