Trying to sort out my morning routine and could use some real-world input. I walk our lab, Biscuit, along the Trabuco Creek trail near the sports park most mornings around 6, and lately there's a coyote that's been sitting up on the bank watching us go by. It never comes closer, just watches, but Biscuit has started pulling toward it and my kids catch the bus for Ambuehl right around then too. I'm not looking to make a whole thing of it with the HOA, I'd just like to know what a sensible person does here. Shorten the leash and keep moving? Change the time? I don't want to overreact, but I also don't want to be the guy who ignored the obvious.

The watching-from-a-distance thing threw me too the first time, but from what I've read that's usually just a curious coyote keeping tabs, not stalking. I keep my two on a short leash near the creek and carry a little shaker can, and honestly just picking up the pace past the spot has worked for us. The 6am timing is the part I'd tweak first if you can, since that's still their active window.
