Still shaken from this morning so bear with me. We walk the Hicks Canyon trail most days and around 6:40 a coyote came out of the brush maybe twenty feet off and just paced us, matched our speed for a good stretch before it peeled off toward the wash. Didn't lunge, didn't do anything really. But my heart was going and I basically speed-walked my daughter and the dog home. I know they were here long before the trail was, and I don't want to be the guy screaming to trap everything. I actually love that we still have that wild edge back there. I just wasn't ready for how it felt to be watched like that with my kid next to me. So genuinely asking the calmer heads here: was it sizing us up, or is pacing just a normal thing they do? Trying to stay level and not swear off the trail we love.
