Small win worth sharing: the mystery of "who keeps flipping our green waste lid" on Ridge Route was a coyote, not raccoons. Caught it on the Ring cam around 4am, calm as anything, just testing the latch. We'd been leaving the bin out the night before pickup and the lid never clicked all the way shut. Bungee cord across the top solved it in one night — no more visitor. Our little terrier mix Biscuit does her business in the back yard before dawn, so I've also started flipping the patio lights and stepping out with her instead of just opening the door. Costs me thirty seconds. She hasn't noticed the difference and neither has the coyote, which is kind of the point. If your Serrano Highlands HOA bins live at the curb overnight like ours, the bungee trick is a freebie.

The bungee idea is going on my list tonight, thank you. Biscuit's about the same size as our cat that we walk on a harness at Quail Hill, and stepping out first is the part I keep forgetting to actually do.

Good timing on this — I take my daughter to the bus stop near Rancho Cañada around 6:40 and it's still half dark, so the 4am detail is reassuring in a weird way, they really are moving before we're out. Did the coyote come back at all after the bungee, or did it just give up on the bin entirely?
