Walking the trail along Trabuco Creek near the Los Rios district this morning I watched a coyote just sitting in the open, maybe 30 yards off, totally relaxed while joggers went by. It wasn't hunting anything, wasn't skittish, just parked in the sun watching. I'm genuinely curious rather than worried — does anyone know if that kind of calm daytime lounging is normal behavior, or is it usually a sign one's gotten too used to people? Trying to understand what I'm actually looking at before I read too much into it.
