Question for anyone who walks Jeffrey Open Space regularly — we crossed one on the trail near the Trabuco entrance around 4pm Saturday and it just stood off to the side of the path watching us, didn't run off. My kid was with me so my heart was going, but it also didn't do anything. Is that middle-of-the-afternoon, holds-its-ground behavior something you all see a lot up there, or is that the kind of thing worth reporting? Trying to figure out where the line is between "normal coyote, give it space" and "actually keep an eye on this one."

Freezing is the wrong instinct, I learned that the hard way. Face it, stand tall, make noise, and never turn your back or run. Pick the beagle up if it's small enough. But honestly, one on the trail two mornings in a row means it's gotten too comfortable, and that's what worries me for your kids. Report it. And yes, those loose cats are basically feeding it.
