Just wanted to pass along something that's worked well for us near the Salt Creek Trail. We had a coyote cutting through the yard most evenings, and the thing that actually made a difference wasn't fencing, it was cleaning up after our avocado tree. Fallen fruit was pulling in rats, and the rats were the real draw. Once we started clearing the drops every couple days and moved the bird feeder, the visits basically stopped. Coyote's still around the greenbelt where it belongs, just not treating our lot like a buffet. If you've got fruit trees backing up to open space, that's the easy win before you spend money on anything fancier.

Marco, this is reassuring to read, honestly. My stomach still drops when I picture one shadowing me and my dog, so hearing that stopping and getting big works every time helps. And you're right about the food — I never thought about rotting avocados as a draw. We had a neighbor feeding strays too, and it took a real conversation to get it to stop. Can't speak to Salt Creek, but I'm going to check under my own trees this weekend. The block-teaching-the-same-habits idea is the part I can actually do something with.
